MY FAVORITE COLLECTIONS FROM PARIS HAUTE COUTURE FASHION WEEK
Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week went on from July3-July 7, and since I am, as y'all know, someone who avidly digests all things fashion I thought I would show my 3 favorite collections from the week. In case you do not know, Haute Couture is different from ready-to-wear because it is not in stores, but instead specifically altered and tailored for the buyer. Though extremely expensive and not made for the masses I still think it is valuable to look at because you can derive a lot of fashion inspiration from it and it gives hints to what will be in for the next season. With that, let's dig in!
VIKTOR & ROLF
This is a collection that many would probably say is not useful for the masses, but I disagree. Made from scraps of their old collections, I can imagine pieces from these collections being worn on all the top fashion bloggers and street style stars at the next fashion week. Like the first shirt, if the pieces that jutted out from the shoulders were cut down and the bottom of the shirt cut evenly across the pelvis matched with the pants it would easily be a showstopper. I could imagine it now, no one would be able to stop repining that ensemble pinterest.
English Designer Giles Deacon's collection is one of my favorites this season because of the creativity imbued in each outfit and photo. It also stood out to me because I noticed a nod to European history through the cuts and 3-D graphic prints that were present in other collections as well, such as Valentino's. Since I love history it is always fun for me to see historical garb reimagined in a modern way and Giles Deacon excels in that aspect.
This Haute Couture season was especially important for Gilles Mendel because it was his first show in Paris since he left to build his brand in New York in 1980. Because of this, he gives nods to Paris in this collection through the use of geometric maps, mimicking Parisian boulevards. This collection proves the beauty of subtlety because of how inconspicuous Mendel's nods are, which is why it is one of my favorite collections.
I keep up on all the latest fashion shows on the Vogue Runway App, and I would suggest to anyone who likes fashion shows to get the app as well. I could not post all the collections I loved, so I encourage you to check out Ellie Saabs and Zuhair Murad's collections, because they are absolutely breathtaking.
Comment below which of these three were your favorite collections!! I will see you Sunday with two looks paired with Adidas Superstars.
See you then,
